Senior Kodi Remote Control

06.06.2022 - Uploaded a modified version of "senior_kodi_rc.ino". Now with the possibility to pause the movie. (changes are based on source code of http://makerangst.com/remote-receiver-for-kodi/5) The background for this project is that my grandmother (92 years old) is overwhelmed with all the remote controls. She is happy when she can set the channels and volume on the TV. However, the German TV program has increasingly degraded and the "good old movies" no longer run. There are seniors who use Amazon Movie or Netflix, however, grandmother can not. Other seniors can manage with senior remote controls and can operate media players. I have thought of a simple 2 button remote control. To do this, simply connect a movie collection on hard disk to a Kodi box. Kodi can be easily controlled via JsonHTTP and start a movie. The TV is switched via infrared to HDMI and back to TV. There is only one start and stop button. Grandma has a paper list of movies, which contains the Kodi ID on which the film was indexed. I read the database with DB.Browser.for.SQLite and created an Excel table. Using a 3x4 matrix keypad, she enters the number, presses the star button to start the movie, the TV switches to HDMI via the IR hub. To stop, she presses the hash key, the movie stops and the TV switches back to TV. The case was created with Shapr3D free, so the export was only possible in low quality. The display can be fixed using melting pins, but hot glue works as well. The keypad is held via the counterpart to the pins. For power supply a simple Micro USB power supply is sufficient I know that the source code is not perfect, I am not a programmer either. So I ask for your indulgence. For me a fast implementation was more important. Feel free to improve the project. For this project I have used: S905x3 Box from Aliexpress, flashed with Coreelec https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32928180453.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.1cbf5e5byzapTF&gatewayAdapt=glo2fra Tuja IR Bridge, flashed with Tasmota. https://tasmota.github.io/docs/devices/YTF-IR-Bridge/ TM1637 4 Digit 7-Segment Display https://www.az-delivery.de/products/4-digit-display 3x4 Matrix Keypad, solder 90 degree header, wire below the display https://www.az-delivery.de/products/4x4-matrix-numpad Wemos D1 mini lite, i solder 90 degree header The movies are on an USB harddisk. It is important that the TV used, in this case a "Telefunken OS 32H70", allows deactivation of unused input sources. We only need TV and HDMI1. The good thing about the Telefunken TV is that it has its own TV button, so switching back to TV works better because it is a different IR code than the one that switches the input source.
