This is a modern reworking of an original bust depicting Seneca, or otherwise known as the 'Pseudo-Seneca'. Lucius Annaeus Seneca, often referred to simply as Seneca or Seneca the Younger, was born around 4 BC and died in AD 65. This Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, dramatist, and humorist flourished during Latin literature's Silver Age. He served as a tutor and later advisor to Emperor Nero, but was eventually forced to take his own life for alleged involvement in the Pisonian conspiracy against Nero. Some accounts suggest that Seneca might have been innocent of these charges. His father was Seneca the Elder, while his elder brother was Lucius Junius Gallio Annaeanus, and his nephew was the poet Lucan.
