Semi Print in Place box
thingiverse
This is my first design that I have posted. Originally this started off as a 3D-printed box that was print in place, but then I thought it would be pretty cool if it could be locked in some way. The hinge was the first part that I designed and also kinda copied from other print-in-place hinges. its probably what works best on this box. When assembled the way to open the box is to first spin it. The centripetal force from spinning it will allow for the pins to fly outwards thus allowing the top circular thing to be twisted, labeled gearAndInternal. The gearAndInternal part is connected to attached to a rack and pinion set up which actually opens and closes the box. This was designed in tinkercad so the precision is not amazing but I did try my best to make it as precise as possible. I have printed this design and the main box works however I haven't printed it at full scale due to printer limitations. the mechanism itself works however it might need to be sanded a bit to work reliably and consistently I believe I printed it at 75%. also, no supports are needed.
