Semi-permanent ball socket

Semi-permanent ball socket

Tried numerous ball sockets with disappointing results due to their inability to retain the ball under stress. Begin by printing two samples to ensure your print settings are configured correctly, preventing posts from snapping. Opt for a light fill of 10-15% to maintain material flexibility. The balls were engineered to maximize friction with the socket and withstand several pounds of weight before disengaging. They can also be printed with two teeth removed for 90-degree bends, reducing grabbing power. Default dimensions are 33mm tall and 18.5mm wide, with a ball diameter of 13mm. Nylon is recommended as the best material to print with, but other materials will work with proper settings. If wear compromises holding power, lightly spray the ball-ends with a hard coating like polyurethane for enhanced friction. These components make excellent pawns and can be scaled up for increased holding power in demanding projects.
