Self Watering Seedling Planter

Self Watering Seedling Planter

thingiverse

This is a seedlings pot made to simplify watering and make trans-planting easier. The biodegradable coffee filter at the bottom soaks up water from the saucer below, reducing the need for frequent watering. This design allows just the right amount of water while still providing oxygen exposure to the roots, making it ideal for seedlings. To use this pot: 1. Print out the model 2. Place a biodegradable coffee filter in the bottom 3. Add some soil 4. Pour in water 5. Plant a seed or branch in need of nurturing When transplanting, follow these steps: 6. Keep the seedling in a stable room for several weeks to acclimate it to outdoor conditions 7. Check the roots to ensure they are strong enough to handle harsh weather 8. Scoop out some dirt and transfer the whole filter to a garden bed 9. Fill your garden with flowers, crops, and enjoy watching them thrive Note: This is a nurturing tool, not a long-term solution. Transplant before the seedling gets too large. I've added an alternative design using a PET bottle reservoir. Simply screw on the cap, hang a paper rope into the bottle, and place the filter at the top. Shorter bottles work best, as they allow for easier water absorption up to 10cm high. The PET version features a 3mm pitch screw and dimensions of 30mm outer diameter and 28mm inner diameter. Feel free to adjust the design to fit your PET bottle. For an even more convenient experience, I've created a PET bottle reservoir with a top mouth for easy watering from above. This model eliminates the need to unscrew the cap when adding water or disposing of old water. If you're not in Japan, please share some insight into standard PET bottle design parameters in your region. I'd be happy to create more models based on this information. Important: Never pour water directly onto the seedling from above. Instead, add water directly to the reservoir at all times. Pouring water from the top can cause granular particles to flow down and clog the filter, leading to a weaker suction force.
