Self watering planter: Ball wide-mouth jar

thingiverse

A self-watering planter that sits on a Ball-branded wide-mouthed preserving jar. It should print without supports. Haven't tested it yet. Might make a nice care-free gift for someone with a green thumb and a windowsill. This is designed to use a locking ring for the jar to secure it. The locking ring may not screw all the way down, due to the angle of the planter at that location (support-less printing). Just tighten the locking ring as much as you can, and the planter will be as close to spill-proof as you can make it. The idea here is to take a bit of string, tie a knot in it, and feed it through the central hole in the cone. Water in the jar will wick up and keep the soil moist. To avoid waterlogging a plant (most kinds), keep the water level in the jar below the planter. A watering channel is provided so the jar can be refilled without removing the plant. I may provide the Openscad file in the near future, which is customizable.
