Self watering planter: Ball wide-mouth jar

thingiverse

The self-watering planter sits atop a Ball-branded wide-mouthed preserving jar, ready to print without supports. Testing it out remains a task for later. This innovative design makes for a thoughtful care-free gift for anyone with a green thumb and a windowsill to call their own. To secure the jar in place, a locking ring is utilized, but be aware that it might not screw all the way down due to the planter's angle at that point. Simply tighten the ring as much as possible, and the planter will be nearly spill-proof. The idea behind this design involves taking some string, tying a knot in it, and feeding it through the central hole in the cone. As water from the jar wicks up, it keeps the soil moist. To prevent waterlogging, keep the water level in the jar below the planter's surface - most plants appreciate this. A convenient watering channel allows for easy refills without disturbing the plant.
