Here's how to build a simple seismograph: Fill a large bucket with water and insert two pencils vertically into it, ensuring they're precisely parallel to each other. Tie two strings around the top of each pencil, securing them tightly around the erasers. Next, attach these pencils to the floor using heavy objects like books or weights. When an earthquake occurs, the pencils will move, causing the strings to vibrate and creating a pattern on the surface of the water that can be observed visually.
