A fast, easy to print and fun RC boat that is self-righting and unsinkable. NB: Some of the parts need to be printed in Vase Mode (Spiralize outer contour) This allows for a light, strong and water tight hull. See below for printer settings. Once the parts are printed, they can be bonded together using medium CA. Use some 1.75mm filament for the rudder hinge, and a balloon neck and cable ties to ensure the wire outlet is water tight. A hole needs to be drilled in the base to allow the propeller tube to pass out. When using the Volantex curved shaft this hole should be drilled 95mm from the rear of the boat. See below when using a STRAIT SHAFT Once the hole is drilled in the hull, tilt the drill at an angle to elongate the hole so the shaft can pass through at an angle. The canopy can be sealed with insulation tape or similar. This ensures the boat is unsinkable and self righting. The build height is 240mm, but the parts can be split to allow for smaller printers I used the following electronics: 250 size1800kx brushless out runner motor 25A esc 9g servo 2.4ghz receiver 1100 mah 3s lipo Prop and shaft from a Volantex 792: https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005003041704396.html Shaft holder: P7920508 Propeller tube: P7920507 Propeller shaft and propeller: P7920505 I've realised that some of you have been struggling to get hold of the Volantex prop and shaft so I've added some parts for a generic 200mm long 8mm diameter shaft with a 30mm prop. Use the file Shaft_holder_for_strait_shaft.stl and Motor_mount_for_20cm_strait_shaft.stl when using a straight shaft. Shaft and prop available here: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mrZDeH2 If using this shaft, the hole should be drilled 70mm from the rear of the boat, Edit 02/09/2022: I've added some files for people using a smaller 3d printer. You should now be able to print it on any printer in 4 sections rather than two. Follow the printing settings bellow and add 4 bottom layers to each part. This creates a bulkhead at each joint making it easier to bond together. NB: Please use the 'thing files' tab to download the additional files, as the 'download all files' button only downloads the original files Edit 02/09/2022: I've added a shaft coupling for popular 2205/ 2306 quadcopter motors as the motor I used is no longer available. It would probably be best to use a lower KV motor such as the EMAX ECO II 2306 6S 1700KV on 3s. Standard 2300Kv motors should be fine on 2s Have fun!
