I was thrilled to see my hand-built scanner bring this remarkable hollow model to life back in 2011 - and you can witness its creation for yourself on video. With a wall thickness of a mere 0.7mm, I achieved impressive precision with my home-made scanner. When it came time to bring the design into being, I chose to have it printed using White Strong Flexible material at Shapeways in 2011. Since then, they've significantly tightened their standards - but at that point, I was able to get away with an incredible build size: a spacious 6.622cm wide x 13.23cm deep x 10.07cm tall model. Meanwhile, back in 2010, I developed a game-changing technique for crafting large sculptures from layered craft foam on the cheap - and I'm proud to say that it only cost me $25 USD. And guess what? That method is showcased in all its glory right here in this very video! But even if my 3D model can't get past Staples' strict print requirements, I've submitted it anyway to their prestigious 3D Printing Challenge - all so you can appreciate the innovative spirit behind this remarkable creation. But that's not all - because the intricate craftsmanship you see here was a direct precursor to what would later become possible with the cutting-edge MCor Iris True Color 3D printer. The attention to detail and precise control displayed in this sculpture really do take it to the next level!
