Self Haircut Tapering Guide
thingiverse
I was desperate for a haircut after a month of quarantine, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. My barber always used a long comb as a guide to blend the short crop with the longer cut - it was a technique that seemed impossible to replicate on my own, especially at the back of my head. This clever attachment guides the trimmer like a comb but stays securely attached, eliminating the need for manual alignment. While you won't get a professional-looking haircut, you'll still benefit from tactile feedback as you move the blade upward and away from your skin. The tracks keep the trimmer moving in a consistent direction, ensuring a smooth cutting experience. Designed specifically for Wahl Trimmers that are 41mm wide at the front edge, this tapering guide is a game-changer for those struggling to achieve an even cut. If you try out this design, please leave a comment sharing your experience - let me know if it works and how it can be improved. Usage: - Start by cutting your hair evenly all around with the long guide that comes with the trimmer. I prefer 10mm (No.3) for a neat look. - Cut the lower half of your head with the short guide, using 3mm (No.1) for a closer cut. - Use a version of this design that matches your short guide for best results. - Begin each stroke with the blade in the short area and work your way up. - As you move the hair trimmer upward, feel the tracks on your skin to guide you. - To achieve a strictly vertical taper, keep the tracks in contact at the same place on your skin. - For a curved transition, the point of contact should also move inward and upward as you move the trimmer. Before attempting to cut the back of your head, practice on the side where you can see yourself in the mirror. You'll find demonstrations here: https://youtu.be/umUmcNQVCxA and here: https://youtu.be/o3YFzssTTa8 Assembly: - Print a version of this design that matches your preferred short guide for best results. - The blade assembly is designed to snap off the trimmer with minimal force, but use electrical tape to ensure it stays in place. - Insert the hair trimmer downward into the groove of the attachment and then lower the back of the blade into the lock. - To remove the attachment when finished, simply squeeze the sides of the lock. Suggested Print Settings in Cura: - Infill Pattern: Gyroid - Support Type: Touch Build Plate - Support Density: 10 - 15% - Support Pattern: Lines - Support Wall Thickness: 1 - For clean removal of support material, insert a scraper into the gap between the tracks and the support. Then rock the scraper back and forth until you hear the support material snap off.
