Self Centering Rod End
thingiverse
Both my i3 Pro B's suffer from loose Y axis rod mounts in their acrylic panels, so I decided to try a small mod to eliminate play and prevent further wear on the components. Starting with kapton tape, which effectively eliminated 90% of the problem, I then turned my attention to this cone design that would automatically self-center when installed. To maintain tension on the cone, I added a spring behind the locking collar, ensuring a snug fit without any play. This solution has proven effective, and I'm considering applying it to my Z axis rods as well. I recommend using a flexible material like Taulman 3D PCTPE for this mod, which offers a good balance of hardness and flexibility. To ensure a secure fit, the interference fit design is essential, allowing for minimal movement between the cone and the rod. After upgrading the springs to 1mm wire thickness and 11mm outer diameter from RS Components, I've noticed a significant improvement in tension and stability. The stronger springs provide a more consistent and reliable performance, making this mod an excellent solution for addressing loose Y axis rod mounts.
