Self Balancing Egg ( Columbus Egg )

This object stands upright with ease once released. At its base, a 5/8 inch or 16mm metal bearing ball centers the weight near its wide bottom surface. I printed it vertically using only the printing bed for support - no internal supports were needed. After completing the inner cylinder, I paused the print and inserted the ball, securing it with hot glue from a gun. The print then resumed until completion. Upon finishing, I cleaned up the base by carefully removing material with an X-Acto knife and smoothing out any rough spots with a sand foam sponge. Next, I placed the object on a flat surface, observed its orientation, and sanded the side that was too high to balance it perfectly - the object tilts away from the higher side. This print used PLA filament at 0.2mm thickness, with the material cooling fan turned on and printing speed set at 30mm/s. The only support used came from the printing bed itself, not from internal supports within the egg. If you'd like to modify or adjust the design dimensions, you can load the .scad file into OpenScad - a free, open-source software that runs on various operating systems. Unfortunately, I was unable to mark it as customizable due to a Thingiverse timeout issue.
