A VERSION FOR SMALLER BEDS IS CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT. Print services available - send me a message. This housing I designed for a RepRapDiscount Smart Controller (2004 style) was integrated into my Printrbot Simple Metal. A 'outboard' style stand will be made as an option to accommodate other printer models. Send me a message if you need a custom stand or mount. The LCD frame and the buzzer ring bezel were printed with aluminum-pla filament. These optional details will be available so you can create your own color scheme. The reset button is not yet complete; for now, there is just a 1.75mm red filament but a screw or other secure scheme with a button cap will be added to this design. Note: The Printrbot firmware I am using does not utilize the SD slot, the beeper, or the system halt button (unfortunately) but this design does allow access to those features so you have the option of using with your own firmware mod (or another model printer). I am working on making these active so I decided not to cover these components up. Print Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer Model: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 20% Notes: This was printed on a Printrbot Simple Metal with the 10" x-axis upgrade. I will set up a version for smaller print beds if requests come in. For the Printrbot stand, two are required; it was designed to mount with M3 screws and nuts. Post-Printing The current version of this design works but will be fine-tuned to allow for use with M3 screws. I was able to fasten it together without nuts (the screws will self-tap). If you wish to add LCD and buzzer fitments they can be attached with craft glue or double-face 3M. The texture vinyl was trimmed using a stencil of the face plate, and most of the rough edges are hidden by the fitments. I was too lazy to drag out my vinyl cutter to make a better fit (space limitations at the lab lately). How I Designed This This design was created from scratch in DesignSpark Mechanical. I took measurements with calipers to get the main outer dimensions, and approximate placement of the screw holes, beeper, reset button, and LCD. I did a quick outline sketch of the faceplate and mockup with the cutout holes, and pulled the plate thickness to a few mils so I could test and refine all hole locations. The outer length and width were adjusted to allow for a housing wall to be incorporated as part of the face plate. I had also measured and placed the pegs for the LCD board. After a few test prints and placement adjustments of the pegs, screw standoffs, and other details, I re-checked and adjusted the design to allow any gap needed between the circuit board edges and the wall. A back-plate was added to make this a fully enclosed assembly.
