Sega Single Motor Dual Extruder
youmagine
I've been working on my dual extruder, the Sega Single Motor Dual Extruder, which uses only one extrusion step motor for 3D printing. It's currently a functioning prototype, and most dual extruders require two step motors to complete the task, but I believe that would make it too heavy for an extruder. So, I decided to use just one step motor to get the job done. Another problem with dual extruders is that when one hotend is working, the second one causes ooze, which can result in unwanted printing issues. My solution was to design a system where the second hotend docks onto a metal plate, blocking any hot plastic drops from the nozzle. To make this work, I needed to create a new extruder and custom firmware that could accomplish my goals. The PDF files contain 3D models that can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader. My current firmware is based on Marlin (https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin), but with some modifications for the Single Motor Dual Extruder. If you have any suggestions for the model file names, feel free to leave a comment. I've also included some videos that show how my design operates.
