Seeing inside the bone
sketchfab
A high-resolution Computed Tomography scan of the tibia from an extinct giant kangaroo reveals a severe central osteopathology, or bone disease. The scan data originates from Greenslopes Private Hospital's X-ray department in Queensland. Hocknull, Newman, and Lawrence are credited as primary authors of the data, which was captured using a Somatom Flash Dual Energy system in 2017. A 3D model of the scan was created by Hocknull with assistance from the Queensland Museum, utilizing Drishti Scene Creator software. The copyright for this work belongs to the Queensland Museum. This project was made possible through a partnership between the Queensland Museum and BHP. For more information about the project, please visit projectdig.qm.qld.gov.au.
