Pollen from slender/woollyfruit sedge (Carex lasiocarpa, Cyperaceae) contains several unique characteristics. Sedge pollen is deceptive, resembling a single grain when in fact it consists of three rudimentary conjoined pollen grains. This deception is made possible by its poroids - indistinct apertures lacking clear margins. According to technical description by PalDat (Halbritter, 2016), Carex pollen exhibits the following features: medium-sized heteropolar tetrads/pseudomonads that are pear-shaped or irregular in appearance, circular or irregular in polar view, and poroidate with a scabrate/microechinate/microverrucate exine.
