Sed Structures: Paleocurrent Indicators
sketchfab
Paleocurrent indicators are primary sedimentary structures that point directly to either the flow direction or the axis of the current at the time of sediment deposition. In some instances, clasts such as pebbles and small cobbles will be preferentially aligned in a way that serves as an indicator of the direction of the current flow - for example, Imbricated Clasts in conglomerates. In this specific situation, Belemnite fossils have been aligned with the paleocurrent axis. Unfortunately, due to the absence of any obvious imbrication, while the axis of current flow is apparent, the direction of current flow remains unclear.
