Security Camera
thingiverse
I've scoured Thingiverse for a realistic security camera prop to perch outside my apartment, but failed to find one that fit the bill. So, I designed my own. The camera lens hidden within is actually a wide-angle LED lens readily available in the market. Even without it, the mockup would appear convincingly real. Four strategically placed holes accommodate 3mm LEDs that simulate IR lighting LEDs found inside authentic cameras. The internal cavity offers ample space for installing circuitry to animate the simulated lights or accommodating alternative electronics. In fact, you could even integrate a genuine miniature camera, transforming my creation into a fully functional security cam. A myriad of compact cameras – some of which are wireless – can be sourced from eBay, many of which would easily fit within the prop's enclosure. On top of the mockup sits a dummy wireless antenna for added visual realism. To further enhance maneuverability, I integrated an extension component designed by Cooasty. Thanks go to Cooasty for this thoughtful contribution! Following a request from Va_Le, I added an extra section enabling users to incorporate 9V or similar battery types into their mockup. Kudos to Va_Le for this suggested improvement!
