Section of Derby's Electric Tram Track

Section of Derby's Electric Tram Track

Until 1904 a horse-drawn tram system has been operating in Derby since the late 1880s. But everything changed suddenly in 1899 when the Derby Corporation Act gave Derby Corporation Transport permission to buy out the existing tramway and start expanding and electrifying it right away. A small portion of this brand-new electric tram track is from King Street, dating back to July 1904 when the modern tram system officially opened its doors. This photograph was crafted in collaboration with our dedicated volunteers.
