Relief flowed from a screen that split the clergy's seating area from the choir in Siena Cathedral. The lion and cub embody Christ's resurrection, as it was believed cubs were born dead and revived by a parent's breath.\r\nThe relief is framed by an uncarved marble strip where decoration has been erased. It consists of two carved rectangles divided down the center by a flat raised strip flanked by vine leaves. A female head sits in one rectangle, a lion and cub in the other.\r\nFrom Nicola Pisano's workshop, dating to around 1272
