SecSavr Simplex CoreXY 3D Printer [ARCHIVED]
thingiverse
This project started out as a collection of ideas. Can I make a 3D Printer with a 3D printed frame that uses less than a spool of plastic? Can I make a printer at the same price as an Ender 3 or Anet A8 using off-the-shelf parts? Can I design a Core-XY printer without ever seeing one first hand? Can I make a printer that looks good and has a high build volume to machine volume ratio? Can I design a printer as fast as Dr Eggman can create robots? This is my first 3D printer from scratch, and I think that so far, the project is showing promise on all those questions (except maybe the last one). This printer uses Graphite Bushings for the smooth rods, a linear rail for the X axis, 32 bit SKR E3 with TMC2209 drivers and touchscreen and a theoretical build volume of 200x160x310mm. Please like, comment or post a make! Support is always appreciated. Timeline [¬ = Updated, + = Added, - = Removed] [Jan 1] - Archived the SecSavr Simplex for the newly designed SecSavr Skyrise. [Nov 13] - Updated a few things, such as the BOM - Changing the design so that it uses 700mm smooth rods and not 450mm smooth rods. - This uses more of the CR-10 build volume and increases the build volume of the Simplex to a spacious 200x190x570mm. [July 12] - Early preview published on Thingiverse - [+] Interlocking test [July 1st 2019] - Project started Specification ## Initial Specification - 24V electronics - Approx £160 expenses, excluding things I already have on-hand - Sensorless homing -- Thus TMC drivers - Heated bed - Larger than 150x150x200mm build volume - Less than 290x290x250mm for the frame - Less than a spool of plastic used ## Material List - Some £8 PLA or £12 PETG for the frame. - Wire Sheathing: [Grey](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAIDED-SLEEVING-EXPANDABLE-BLACK-OR-GREY-BRAIDED-FLEXIBLE-CABLE-SLEEVING-3-1/201381455859?var=500573602813), [Orange](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Braided-Expandable-Cable-Loom-Auto-Harness-Wire-Sleeving-Sheathing10mm-ORANGE-5m/252142506543) - M3 5X5 Inserts - [GT2 Closed Loop 158mm](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-3D-printer-belt-closed-loop-rubber-GT2-timing-belt-400-2GT-6-teeth-100/32477498985.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.42d03c00BvDsoN) - 3D Self Adhesive Tiles (width 6cm, height approx 70cm) - 4 Pot Magnets - [203x203mm Steel Bed](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000137298652.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000060.3.62847805jlsMlv&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller&scm=1007.13339.146401.0&scm_id=1007.13339.146401.0&scm-url=1007.13339.146401.0&pvid=25d2cbd8-4314-47c0-897c-ca859de02ed3) Trivia - I came to the name SecSavr Simplex due to 2 reasons: I've always wanted to make a line of fast printers (SecSavr) and the objective function was to maximise the build volume, as well as the X on the front window looked cool. - You need a printer with a build size larger than 290x290x250mm for the frame
