SecKit SK-Tank Key-Bak Mount
prusaprinters

The SecKit SK-Tank has a thick, heavy printbed, and without additional support, it sometimes drops a bit in the rear when the power is switched off despite the geared Z steppers. This is a mount for a Key-Bak Securit heavy-duty retractable key fob, that can be used to provide 20 oz. of additional support to the back of the bed.

Here is a link to the Key-Bak Securit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CQLJA4W

The strap crossbar needs to be cut off the Key-Bak, leaving just the two 'ears'. Or better yet, pull the crossbar out with a pair of pliers so the remnants don't rattle.

The mount consists of a base and lid, with the Key-Bak inside. Two M3 bolts and captured nuts are used to fasten one end of the mount together, and a single M5 bolt fastens the other end together and attaches the mount to the frame.

Aside from the Key-Bak and enclosure, you will need to install an idler pulley on a bolt in the M5 hole to the right of the rear Z rail; and you will need to install an M3 bolt in the rear Z bed support, to which you will attach the Key-Bak cord.

Here is the hardware you will need:

Idler:

(1) M5x35+ bolt

(6) M5 nuts (4 as spacers, 2 jam)

(1) idler pulley with a 5mm bore

Enclosure:

(1) M3x25+ socket cap head bolt

(1) M3x15+ socket cap head bolt

(2) M3 nuts

(1) M5x35+ socket cap head bolt

(1) M5 nut (any type)

Z support attachment:

(1) M3x20+ bolt

(3) M3 nuts (1 to secure the bolt, 2 jam on outside of Key-Bak cord).

You will need to pull the cord a bit to get the Key-Bak to seat fully in the enclosure base. Also, the Key-Bak should go into the base with the big logo facing out, because the 'ears' on it are not centered, but are closer to one face than the other. If you find the Key-Bak can still move inside the enclosure when it is completely closed, put some foam tape in there with it to keep it from rattling.

Once installed, the enclosure should clear the lower rear belt by ~3 mm.

If you have problems with this mod, please let me know. Enjoy!

EDIT: The Key-Bak can be pretty noisy due to the printer's vibration, but this seems to depend on the specifics of each printer and Key-Bak. The noise seems to come from the internal spring in the Key-Bak. I will see what I can do to isolate the mount from the frame from a vibration standpoint.

Print Settings

Printer:

SecKit SK-Tank

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

200

Infill:

20

Filament:
Overture PETG
Electrical Blue

Category: 3D Printer Accessories
