This captivating sculpture seems to be an innovative interpretation of a portrait of a seated Socrates, reminiscent of numerous replica sculptures and frescoes created by the renowned artist Éphese. Believed to have been crafted by Lypsippe (circa 370-300 BC), this lost original serves as the inspiration for these copies, which can also serve as a model for the influential philosopher Metrodorus (330-277 BC). The sculpture was skillfully created in Rome.
