Sea Deity, Crowned, with Horns

Sea Deity, Crowned, with Horns

myminifactory

This enormous head of a bearded man is an exact replica of a sculpture housed in the Pio-Clementino Museum within the Vatican Museums. The work is widely believed to depict a sea god, boasting a crown and horns. Two distinct round shapes are embedded in the man's beard, which are thought to represent testicles. This association can lead to speculation that the bust is actually a representation of Uranus, whose genitals were brutally severed and subsequently thrown into the sea. The foam generated by his severed genitals is said to have given rise to Aphrodite, who got her name from this mythical origin story.
