SdKfz 251, Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251 — a German medium half-track armored personnel carrier during World War II. Created by Hanomag in 1938 based on artillery tractor Sd Kfz 11 and produced serially from June 1939 to March 1945. During World War II, SdKfz 251 together with light SdKfz 250 formed the backbone of German armored transportation and also served as the foundation for an entire family of combat vehicles for various purposes. The SdKfz 251 outdid all other examples in number produced during World War II except for the American M3 armored personnel carrier. It was used by the Germans in limited quantities, their allies received even fewer, but after the war its modernized model Tatra OT-810 continued production until 1962 at Podpolan's Stroyarne Plant in Detva. From the eighties on large amounts of these were withdrawn from the army of Czechoslovakia and the last ones were stored till they finally ceased production in 1995.
