SdKfz 2, a high mobility motorcycle with high passing characteristics, was developed and mass-produced in Germany during the Second World War. It was originally designed for use in airborne and infantry divisions, however its dynamic performance rendered it extremely popular among German troops. Due to their advanced dynamics, Kettenkrads proved particularly valuable for transport in hilly and forest terrain areas and therefore were widely deployed within all branches of the Wehrmacht army during WW2. By 1940 to 1945 NSU manufactured over 7,500 units in collaboration with company Stoewer. Furthermore, some existing parts after war left-over have been repurposed as military trucks from 1945 through to 1949 which produced more than a total of around 550 vehicles, eventually employed by private civilians throughout the following decade.
