SD Card Grip

SD Card Grip

thingiverse

This is a simple grip for the back end of an SD card. I designed it for my MakerFarm i3v with the LCD add-on. I print primarily from the SD card, but the card is a bit difficult to remove. For one, it barely sticks out of the slot at all, making you have to grab it with just your fingernails. Second, the spool holder that I use limits the room for my hand to reach in there to grab it. My solution is this grip with a loop attached. Now I can pull out the card easily with one finger. I've added two versions, one with side walls and one without. On my i3v, there isn't any room for sidewalls as the card rests just about even with the top panel of the printer, but if you're using this with something else then the sides could make for a better grip on the card. The OpenSCAD sources are included, in case you need to tweak anything. I have the SD card insertion pretty low because I don't have much card to grip on my machine (any more and my card wouldn't get inserted into the machine's slot all the way), but it's easily adjustable. Instructions I'd suggest printing with support unless your printer is just stellar with bridging. If you're having a hard time getting just the right thickness for the SD card width (doesn't grip the card well), you could put some ABS slurry in there and let it dry with the card in, or use something like superglue. The presets in the file work well for me so I didn't have to do anything like that.
