The Middelheim Museum stands as a unique treasure in Antwerp's vibrant art scene. This open-air museum boasts an exceptional setting that offers a captivating glimpse into more than one hundred years of visual arts history. The welcoming art park charms over 250,000 visitors annually, and the best part? Admission is completely free. The Middelheim Museum collection comprises approximately 400 works of art, carefully curated over more than 50 years. Spanning from around 1900 to the present day, this impressive collection provides an outstanding overview of international modern and contemporary art. Every year sees new additions to the collection, ensuring it remains fresh and exciting. Approximately 215 sculptures are strategically placed throughout the park, featuring works by renowned artists like Auguste Rodin, Rik Wouters, Henry Moore, Juan Muñoz, Carl Andre, Panamarenko, Franz West, Erwin Wurm, and many more. The picturesque setting is complete with stately trees, broad paths, and inviting grassy clearings. Each year, the museum invites contemporary artists to engage in an artistic dialogue with the permanent collection and park environment, resulting in high-profile performances and impressive exhibitions by well-known and emerging artists alike. These new works are frequently added to the permanent collection, making it a dynamic and ever-changing showcase. Recently, Roman Signer and Ai Weiwei have created new pieces specifically for the museum.
