Scribe Station & Dip Pen Set
thingiverse
Here, for your consideration, is a station tailored to all your dip or fountain pen needs. Whether you're scribbling arcane symbols into a secret tome in secret, illustrating your next web comic, or writing invitations to a soiree, this Scribe Station will provide the perfect spot for your ink, nibs, pens, sealing wax and stamp. If space isn't needed for wax seal accessories, the Scribe Junior is a smaller version with 4 pen slots and room for a nib casket and ink pot. In addition to the Scribe Station and Scribe Junior, I drew inspiration from Mackenzie's Prototype Fountain Dip Pen here on Thingiverse to create my own dip pen handles. As I have large hands, I decided to make my own dip pen handle designs in varying sizes. Most are between 13 and 14 mm in diameter, with the "Robust" Mystic Stylus coming in at 19mm. I normally use these handles with Zebra Comic G Model Chrome Pen Nibs, which fit perfectly. Most standard nibs I own have worked so far. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.15 Infill: 20% Notes: For the Scribe Station, simply print the files as they are, without brims or special considerations. All three pieces will fit on an Ultimaker bed and print in around nine hours. For the pen handles, I recommend a resolution as fine as your printer can handle. I use a shared printer, so I printed mine at 0.1 to keep the speed up for others who use the facility. A brim of at least 15 lines is necessary to prevent the pens from wobbling once they reach the top inch. This presents a problem, as the brim will cover the nib entry point. This can be fixed by breaking through the brim layer, I used a thumbtack, and then filing the entry point lightly. Print slowly to prevent the nib channel from fusing solid, I printed at 60 but will likely print at 40 for my next few. Post-Printing The station itself only needs the top guide with pen holes to be glued on to the posts with super glue. The left side is meant to be placed abutting the right side, but the two halves can also be glued together if you prefer, although this detracts from easy storage and portability. After printing the pens, clear the nib channel as described in the Print Settings section. After that you're ready to use your new dip pen handle! For finishing touches, I applied a coat of gold Vallejo acrylic paint on the handles and a few raised areas on the station and then put a wash of Vallejo Smoke over the gold. I painted the "jewels" blue and highlighted them with white. Then, I applied a protective coating of Testors Dullcote to the handles since they are meant to be regularly handled.
