I've spent a decent amount of time designing robots that traverse ground that is hard for wheels to get traction. Therefore, I am confident that a lunar rover could benefit from a screw style drive to avoid sinking into the regolith. My design uses a screw mechanism with fold out arms and a fold out petal style solar panel or solar reflector that is attached to a 5 joint arm for positioning. They folding arms are key because multiple rovers can transform to be skinny and pack tightly next to each other for transport while still being able to drive themselves out of the transport lander. After they exit onto the lunar surface, the arms can spread out for stability.Please contact if you have questions!
