Screw Library

thingiverse

The Thing page for the Screw Library contains a threaded rod library that currently allows you to create a trapezoidal profile, like Acme or metric lead screws found in CNC machines. The trapezoidThread module creates the rod along Z with parameters such as length, pitch, pitchRadius, threadHeightToPitch, profileRatio, threadAngle, RH, clearance, and backlash. You can also create a negative space of a thread with proper clearances to screw on using the trapezoidThreadNegativeSpace module, which takes additional parameters like length and countersunk. Additionally, there's the trapezoidNut module that uses the above negative space module to create a hexagonal lead nut with the right clearances when given the radius as an additional parameter. The library is still being developed and any bugs or suggestions for changes or extensions are welcome. To use this library, it should be noted that it's not meant for printing threaded rods but rather for subtracting threaded rod from an object to make it a lead nut. To create two meshing threaded rods, they need to have different handedness (RH) but the same pitch, pitch radius, and threadHeightToPitch, with their profileRatios being complementary (summing up to 1), and separated by a distance of twice their pitch radius.
