Screen Printing Frame Corner
thingiverse
Here's a screen printing or silk screening frame corner, carefully crafted and designed to make your life easier. It's probably already been created, manufactured and shared online, but if so, here's another option. This innovative design will not simplify the screen printing process, but it will undoubtedly reduce costs. The most tedious part of screen printing is washing off emulsion to reuse the frame, a task many find daunting. I should know, as it's my least favorite part of screen printing. This corner piece is a frame component, modeled after window screen frame corners. You'll need to visit your local hardware store to obtain window screen frame bars and cut them to size. I cut mine to 9" and 11.5" to create a sturdy frame that can support 8-1/2" x 11" transparencies, as well as my 10" wide squeegee. Assembling the corners into the frame bars should be straightforward - simply knock them in place to form a square frame. Next, cut your silk screen fabric across and insert the cord, ensuring it's taut. Printing instructions: This part doesn't require perfection, but since it will be under stress as you insert it into the frame bars, ensure that you have excellent layer adhesion. You may also want to increase your extrusion factor for added friction, preventing the frame from falling apart. Other than that, print resolution isn't crucial. These corners will get dirty and stay dirty, so nothing matters. The point is printing these corners for $0.25 each (x4 corners) is more cost-effective than buying them as part of a "frame kit" (minus the bars), which costs $5. With 2 full bars from the store, you can create approximately 3 "8-1/2x11" frames, saving you money on artwork and disposal costs.
