The excavator is a massive piece of equipment utilized in excavation, development, farming and other earth-moving endeavors. Its rear section features an upwardly movable container (also referred to as the bowl) equipped with a sharp horizontal front edge. The container can be hydraulically elevated and lowered. When the container is lowered, its front edge slices into the soil or clay like a plane and fills the container. Once full (8 to 34 cubic meters or 10 to 44 cubic yards heaped, depending on type), it's raised, and sealed with a vertical blade (known as the apron). The excavator can transport its load to the fill area where the blade is elevated, the back panel of the container, or the ejector, is hydraulically pushed forward and the load tumbles out.
