NOTE: this is continuously being re-uploaded as i modify the design (which is very much in WIP) so make sure you come here often. Update 17/06/2016: completely revamped the bearings block and the hotend mount now features detachable belt grippers for off-site clamping then insertion onto the carriage, the grippers are printed separately ensuring correct orientation during printing. Some other modifications have been made to the hotend-clamping bolts. This is the 10mm XRods variation of the previous 8mm Rods XCarriage. It is specifically designed for Bowden setups and Horizontal Rods, eliminating most of the static and dynamic errors that affect printing during the accelerations/jerks/etc of a 3D printer (discussion here: http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?1,668254). Sketchfab 3D model with exploded view is available here: https://skfb.ly/OVzz DETAILS: X uses 10mm rods and LM10UU bearings. Y also uses 10mm rods and LM10UU bearings. The belt used is gt2. Hotend is a clone of E3Dv6. Axial fans are 30mm in size. Radial blowers are 4020 type. The XCarriage is very symmetrical, evenly distributing any forces applied during accelerations, jerks, etc., so that the nozzle remains as fixed as possible. Features: 72.75mm XCarriage (the Belt-Catchers fit inside the YCarriages, not wasting space); Belts go in a straight line and the same plane from YCarriages towards the XCarriage; Belts can be tensioned with simple screws and dome-nuts pressing on the belt, forcing it into the niche designed for it; belts can be independently tensioned. Hotend is supported by both the upside carriage and lower side with 4 screws. Dual-30mm fans are used for coldend cooling. Dual-30mm fan (or squirrelcage blowers) is considered for part cooling [still very undecided here]. TBD: 1) a way to remove wiggle/play from the linear bearings 2) design it for dual hotend Cheers, Flo. Custom Section Modified BearingBlock BasePart Update 1: Modified BearingBlock_Base and removed the extra plastic around the hotend, which served no actual purpose other than some extra reinforcement. Now the air from fans can more easily get to the lower, hotter fins. Still not the best way to cool the lower fins.
