Scotts Turf Builder Edge Guard Spacer
thingiverse
My fix was developed for the Scotts spreaders that cause striping. The design from the factory puts the spinning impeller too low so the product hits the wheels and falls straight down. There have been easy fixes such as putting aluminum pie tins over the inside of the wheels. While this would prevent material from collecting in the wheels, it would still be hitting it falling straight down. My design actually lifts the whole bucket / impeller above the wheels. There are two versions for spacing the bucket: -One can just be attached with washers and drywall screws (shorter than 1 5/8". You can see in the picture they went too far and hit the metal, bending the spacer.). -For a nicer look, the 2nd uses 1/4" carriage bolts like the original setup. I had to cut mine to length because they need to be about 1 1/4" and that doesn't exist. If you can find M6x30 bolts that would probably work. I found it easiest to reassemble the bucket, stand, and handle while the top part of the handle was removed where it folds. When you move the bucket upwards it puts some slack in the cable for the adjustment dial. It will have to be adjusted by removing the cable where it attaches to the bucket. Either cut back some of the black sheath, or spread the plastic thing so you can push the end out. Simply bend the end over as shown and slide it all the way back in. 5/24/23 Update after 1st use: The impeller seemed a bit too close to the edge guard mechanism and sometimes brushed against it. Reigned the shaft space to clip into the white original shaft more securely, this should prevent the impeller from lifting and rubbing on the edge guard. (But I wont know till I use it again) It has also come to my attention that my printer accuracy might be off. My finished spacer looks like about 11mm ID where the model is 11.6mm. Also my wheels kept falling off.... I may have bent the little clip tabs too far in while removing/reinstalling them. Should be an easy fix, but just something to look out for.
