Scottish Highlands
thingiverse
The Highlands of Scotland contain the prominent peaks Beinn Eight and Liathach, situated between Loch Maree in the north/northeast and Upper Loch Torridon in the southwest/west. Created from high-resolution SRTM data acquired by the Space Shuttle, which mapped the terrain at a resolution of 1 arcsecond (2 million polygons). This digital model was produced using an advanced version of the software tool SRTM2STL, although it remains unreleased at present. A pre-release version that outputs files at 3 arcsecond resolution is available for free under the GNU license on github. Users can access the source code by searching for SRTM2STL on this platform. Printing guidelines: Maps can benefit from being printed in a smaller format, as attempting to print large maps with PLA material may lead to distortion and warping. A technique that effectively manages warping can increase the likelihood of success when printing large relief maps. Experience suggests that managing warping allows even larger prints to be successful.
