VR-ready Capture location: OpenStreetMap; Google Street View. Photos: Flickr. Production method summary: Each step involves importing the mesh from the previous step, processing it, and exporting the next version of the mesh. Every import/export of the mesh uses file format OBJ (PNG for textures). RealityCapture produces an untextured mesh, then InstantMeshes performs retopo. For VR scenes with uneven ground, Blender is used to add ground. RealityCapture textures the mesh, and Blender re-bakes textures. For VR scenes, Blender imports accurate maps/plans as background images and uses them as references for scaling meshes accordingly. To reduce mesh file size, MeshLab is used to import/export unnecessary vertex/face data. To minimize texture file size, GIMP scales down textures before exporting.
