The Eurasian red squirrel, also known as the Sciurus vulgaris, is a species of rodent that has been widely studied. Linnaeus first described this species in 1758, recognizing it as one of the most common and widespread rodents in Europe. The scientific community refers to this species using its binomial nomenclature, while locals may call it by different names such as "esquirol" or "ardilla roja." In some collections, specimens are identified with a unique catalog number, like MZB 2003-0512. Researchers often focus on specific parts of the body when studying these animals, including their skulls. The size and shape of a skull can provide valuable information about an animal's behavior and habits. For example, measurements such as length, width, and depth may be taken to understand the development and growth patterns of the species. In this case, the skull of a male Eurasian red squirrel was measured at 21.3 mm in length by 29.6 mm in width by 49.1 mm in depth. The specimen was collected from Torroella de Fluvià, Barcelona (Spain) on July 28, 2002.
