Science Fiction Dungeon. Fast to Print, Easy to Store
thingiverse
This is my take on SF corridor design. I've created a system that meets the following criteria: all components must be 3D printed, printing time needs to be manageable, it should allow building corridors and rooms of any sizes, curved corridors are also feasible, easy painting is essential, storage space must be minimized, setup time for a table in reasonable time is crucial, and higher levels can be built (future project). The pieces you'll download from this project are designed to print on FDM printers without supports. Walls and doors are best printed flat on the bed, which makes printing faster and maximizes your printer's X-Y resolution, but requires a well-levelled bed. I've tried to make filenames as descriptive as possible; here's a key to reading them: 1. Connector - the simplest piece connecting walls directly. 2. Corner Ad Bx - corner piece connecting wall pieces where A stands for the angle between connected walls and B is the number of walls that can be connected with this piece. 3. Door Frame SA BBmm DDD - as the name suggests, a piece of wall with a slot for a door, where SA is the size of the slot (print doors of corresponding size), BB is how long the wall around the slot is in total (in mm), and DDD describes the décor used on the wall around the slot. 4. Door SA DDD - the door itself, where SA is the size of the door (suited for a slot of corresponding size) and DDD describes the type of door. WARNING: with glass doors, you need to print them twice to produce one door (and cut a piece of translucent plastic to stick between them). 5. Stencil - as the name suggests, a stencil to paint hazard stripes in the bottom of walls, if desired. 6. Wall BBmm DDD - the main building part, where BB is how long the wall is in total (in mm) and DDD describes the décor used on the wall. As for printing, I printed all parts on my Prusa I3 mk3 with the following settings: 2 parameters, 3 bottom layers, 4 top layers, 5% infill (increase to 30% for corner pieces), and a 0.3 layer height.
