Sci-fi Smoke Grenade

I modeled one of these grenades based on Juan Novelletto's concept art, and this was my first project working from a concept artist's vision. It was both incredibly fun and quite challenging at the same time. Since I didn't have various angles of the objects to refer to, I had some room for artistic interpretation. With many references to help guide me, I was able to fill in the areas where I might have been unsure about. The process was similar to my other pieces - high and low polys were done in 3DS Max, then baked and textured in Substance Painter. Rather than modeling every detail from scratch, I took advantage of the hard surface inserts provided by Painter to replicate the more subtle details on each grenade. Finally, I used Photoshop to create the various decals for both grenades.
