The human body is made up of more than 60 trillion cells, each with its own unique characteristics and functions. Every day, trillions of new cells are created through a process called cell division. This occurs when a cell grows too big to fit inside its membrane, so it splits into two identical daughter cells. Cell division is essential for growth and repair in the human body. For example, during childhood, our bodies grow rapidly because of cell division. As we age, cell division slows down but still continues at a steady rate.
