Sci Fi Moon Rocket...model rocket
thingiverse
JackHydrazine made a wonderful model with a wonderful story that's worth checking out. But his model of a 40's style Sci Fi rocket was missing the critical element of being an actual rocket, so I decided to correct that oversite.Text from Jack's thing...This toy rocket was inspired from a post by Mark Hales on Terran Trade Authority Farcebook group. He describes it as..."My grandad made and photographed this diorama in the late 1940s on the kitchen table.Probably influenced by the V2 but also Flash Gordon.""It was (made from) a broom handle, coal & salt and a curtain with holes and tissue paper. The metal was from his factory. He was a tool maker. The flames were added at negative processing. The colour on the photo with water colour."18OCT2023I've included the original image, provided to my by Mark Hales, that his grandfather made that inspired JackHydrazine's version, which in turn inspired my version. To build this rocket you will need:70mm of BT-20 (18mm) body tube for the motor tube80mm of BT-55 (33mm) body tube for the main rocket. Leave this long and cut it after gluing in the body.Shock cord, I used Kevlar lineA 12" parachute.I recommend Polymaker LW-PLA as it prints like regular PLA but is lighter, but this model should fly on regular PLA.I printed the body with no infill and 1.2mm walls. I printed the nosecone with 10% infill. The motor retainer and engine block will print solid no matter your settings.Use the exploded diagram as a guide but it's pretty straight forward.Once everything is printed, your motor tube should be glued in flush with the bottom of the retainer section of the body and if you look inside you will see it's also flush with the top of the 18mm hole section.Run your shock cord through the hole in the engine block and tie a loop going around the raised center part but inside the raised outer edge. Then glue this engine block inside the 33mm tube with the shock cord inside the tube and the recess facing down.Glue the 33mm tube with the engine block down inside the body until the engine block is pressing on the 18mm tube you glued in earlier. If you left the 33mm tube long, you can now cut it off flush with the top of the body.Attach the nosecone to the shock cord and the parachute as well. Put in wadding, and a motor. Twist the retainer on and enjoy!Oh...and paint it how you like too.Launch Video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/r2URSjr8R-s
