Sci-fi Containment Cube
thingiverse
Multi-part sci-fi containment cube, to be printed in parts. The finished cube consists of 8 vertex sections (Cube_Outer + Cube_Inner) connected by 12 edges (Connector). There is also an optional crystal that can sit in the middle, suspended by clear acrylic rods (but you can contain anything in it really (things will look great if you use transparent fishing line to suspend them near-invisibly). Originally designed for use at Orion Sphere LRP (http://www.orionspherelrp.co.uk), a science fiction live roleplay game that run events in the UK. Players take on the role of starship crews, companies and research institutes, as one of a host of alien species and in one of four competing Factions. Everything is designed to be printed in a small build area, although you can enlarge the whole thing if you have a bigger printer. Print the vertex cube sections with the triangular cut face facing down, and with 50 degree supports. The connector sections should be printed vertically with a brim. Connectors should slot around the sockets on the Inner Vertex sections, and be glued. Outer sections can be screwed in using the holes provided. The whole structure is hollow in case you want to put electronics or something in it, and the holes facing towards the middle can easily be adorned with some kind of fancy technological devices.
