GPS: N 50° 6.401', O 11° 21.844' Location: Near Kulmbach. Southeast of the town on the road to Mainleus, at an intersection before B289. Size/Material: 48:38:31 / Sandstone History: After 1900, when the street was renovated and took its current route, they found the stone cross and placed it in its current location at the fork of the road and planted a linden tree next to it. The stone cross is often associated with a peasant battle near Schwarzach in 1632. At that time, a large group of peasants from surrounding villages were brutally slaughtered by imperial soldiers. In 1401, a cross field was mentioned in Swarzach, and in 1567, a field near the crosses on the road, known as the Marter, was mentioned. I assume that the stone cross is one of the mentioned crosses or the Marter. From various examples, we know that people used to call stone crosses Martyr. The stone cross likely dates back before 1400. (Dill 1984) Legend: 1. Generally, the stone cross is called "Swedish Cross".
