Women play a vital role in shaping the economic, social, and political landscape of communities, driving progress in developing nations with their contributions as child bearers, caregivers, and half of the population. They influence not only the present state of a community but also its future trajectory. Education empowers women to shatter barriers for themselves and their families, equipping them to raise more educated children who can further amplify positive change and foster even better outcomes for future generations. As such, it is imperative that girls in developing nations have access to uninterrupted education without fear of intimidation, violence, or assault. However, one significant reason many girls in developing nations drop out of school prematurely is the escalating threat of violence and sexual assault as they mature. Unfortunately, numerous girls abandon their studies after puberty due to increasing external dangers. According to the CIA World Factbook, 23% of Indian girls, 40% of Chinese girls, and an alarming 60.2% of Kenyan girls discontinue their education following puberty. This specially designed pencil box aims to raise awareness about the formidable obstacles women face in pursuing their education. Rather than incorporating functional writing instruments, I have crafted a unique container that holds pills containing emergency contraception, pain relief medication, and a whistle for summoning help. This kit prioritizes female self-preservation above all else, eschewing compartmentalization strategies to enhance utility in favor of a single tray beneath which lies a miniature Zen garden. This serene oasis offers girls at school a means of coping with the constant anxieties that come with attending classes. The handle of this pencil box doubles as an emergency tool - if a girl feels threatened by an unarmed perpetrator, she can use the spiked flower handle to deter or defend herself against attack.
