School Door Safety Locks

School Door Safety Locks

thingiverse

We have two types of doors in our school and we want to quickly lock them without using a key in case there is an absent teacher. Our solution was creating two ABS plastic parts that we printed ourselves on our 3D printer. The door always remains locked, but it opens when the part is positioned correctly. If someone suspicious enters, a person can slightly open the door and slide the part into the locked position to keep them safe. The working locks are demonstrated at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNxqyoSrQRc. The original roller lock version sticks out too much. We've experienced several breakages when students accidentally catch their backpacks on them. I recently uploaded smaller left and right versions that seem to be more reliable.
