school compasses case - Zirkel box
thingiverse
I designed a protective case for compasses, specifically Zirkels, because these boxes often get damaged when kids carry them in their backpacks. There are three files involved: two cases and one cover. You'll only need two of the files - the cover and one set of cases. The cases come in two versions. Version v1 is designed for compasses with handles that are 8 mm or smaller, while version v2 is suitable for handles up to 9mm. I'm not sure if this design will work with other types of compasses, but as you can see from the picture, these two versions worked perfectly for three different compasses - the blue one is v2. I took it a step further and added two magnets to the design while printing - one in the cover and one in the case. This ensures that the cover stays locked when it's closed. The magnet I used is this 6x3mm model from Amazon. When you're printing the cover, don't forget to insert a break at 17 mm with the gcode: M25. For the case, you'll need to insert a break at 13 mm with the same gcode. Make sure to pay attention to the polarity of the magnets so that it's possible to close the case securely
