Well, I had initially planned to have the first version up and running just one evening as a party gag, but it turned out that people really enjoyed it and asked me to keep working on it. So, I decided to continue development of this project. As of June 9, 2018, testing has been going well. The rope clamps on the gondolas are working extremely well, and so is the rope tightener. I'm currently experimenting with different gondola designs for easy loading and unloading of cargo, such as schnapps in various forms. I'm also testing airsoft bearing balls for the rolls, which seem to be performing well. On May 13, 2018, I updated the gondola file by adding an easy-to-print and assemble design. I plan on including SVG or PDF files for printing out the paneling of the gondola. Currently, I'm testing a rope tightener and a longer setup of the ropeway. With a couple of meters in length, you'll see a dramatic increase in forces on the material. To address this issue, I had to implement reinforcement on the lower station's big wheel because the M8 rod and PLA base were starting to bend. As of April 27, 2018, I made some minor updates to the FreeCAD files and took new screenshots. There was a major update in April 2018 where I revisited the parts of my "Schnapsbahn" and made some improvements. However, not all of the parts have been fully tested yet. I'm planning on using 40x40 extruded profiles for a new build. I also designed a geared power unit. You can find the old Mk.2 version as a zipped file. The Mk.2 worked well, and I reused or improved many parts to make it compatible with the Mk.3. The following tested parts from the Mk.3 include: * Parametric roll for 4.5mm steel bearing balls * Rolls-battery (truck) * Cable tightener * Cable clamp/gondola hanger * Valley station gearbox & motor mount * Upper station parts All of these parts are working, as you can see in the latest video. The next step will be a stress test with a longer rope and some heavy gondolas. The following tested parts from the Mk.2 include: * Planetary gear bearings rolls * BB-bearing rolls remixed from Thingiverse's 1799757 * Cable clamp V3c, heavily inspired by Thingiverse's 1686450 * Cable joiner/tightener You can find the latest videos on YouTube: iuSqkMyCo_g, 6mi1HiTO2zo, MVzAj4yQT_8, and NoVG3bZymYg. This project is still a work in progress, but as they say, "Release early, release often." I used FreeCAD and OpenSCAD for the Mk.2 version, while the Mk.3 was fully designed using FreeCAD. All of the source files are included so you can tinker with all the parts yourself.
