From my Super Laboratory! Totally awesome, very safe, so SUPER LOUD! It's the Schlafender! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxGQHj4kEbo Despite a plethora of whistle-like gadgets on Thingiverse, I have not seen someone design one of my all-time favorite childhood toys and sound effects. I've been brainstorming this idea since I first got my 3D printer, and decided to whip up a prototype. The results were extremely satisfying. The video showcases my niece expertly activating the Schleuder at a baseball game. It's incredibly loud, and the people behind us were completely unamused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydJkU2MzXbo NOTICE This work is licensed under the Creative Commons - Attribution - Non-Commercial license. Instruction Print the disk plate, I used two perimeters, 75% infill, four layers top and bottom, 0.18mm layer height. There are two spinning blades - one matches the hole size on the tube, the other is slightly larger. I believe the smaller openings work best, but you may prefer the sound of the larger holes. Make sure that the smooth sides of the large tube and blade are aligned and don't snag on each other. Enlarge the center hole in your chosen spinning blade with a 1/16 inch bit, and tap the center hole in the large tube with a 2.5mm tap. If you don't tap all the way through the center hole, the bolt will resist turning with the disk. Alternately, you could drill out the center hole of the large tube and through-bolt with a lock nut. Be cautious not to overtighten the bolt! A few drops of super glue will secure the small tube to the tapered bottom of the large tube, and safeguard the spinning blade. Lastly, if you don't achieve a pleasing siren sound, try a drop of lubricating oil (vegetable or mineral) on the bolt head where the disk spins. Just one drop This will make an enormous difference! CAUTION: Not intended for use by minors without adult supervision - This is probably the ideal size to block a small child's airway. Also, this WHISTLE is very loud. Operating the Schleuder in proximity to someone's ear may cause permanent hearing damage. Seriously.
