Schlage Knob Extension for Thick Door
thingiverse
I have a 2.5" thick door (interior), and finding _any_ knob that will fit it properly, let alone the same as the rest of the house, is pretty ridiculous. Schlage makes a thick door kit for exterior doors, but it's only for deadbolts and certain exterior locking handles. I couldn't make it work with a regular interior knob. So I based this somewhat on that, with modifications to work properly with a privacy knob (i.e. the type you would use on a bathroom). It may also work for a non-locking one. It definitely will not work without modification on a keyed lock. To assemble, first put the casing extension on the outer knob. It should sit right in place. Then slide this assembly into the door, with the latch already in it. Then push the pin extension onto the pin from the outer knob. Puts the screws into the interior knob first (I'm not sure if the screws I used were the originals, or ones I had gotten from the official thick door kit - it took me a long time to figure this out), then slide them through the guides in the extension casing. Tighten up! Depending on the thickness of your door, you may need to adjust the pin extension balancing strength and the ability for it to push through when unlocking.
